Trooper Andrew C. Baldridge Killed in On-Duty Crash

Trooper Andrew C. Baldridge, 25, died from injuries sustained in an on-duty crash on Township Road 95, just south of state Route 103, at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Trooper Mark McLaughlin was injured in the crash. The troopers were responding to a mutual aid call from a Wyandot County Sheriff’s deputy.

Law enforcement officers from around Ohio and the nation joined hundreds of family members and friends in paying tribute to Trooper Baldridge in a celebration of his life on February 8, 2010, in Carey, Ohio, Trooper Baldridge’s hometown.

Trooper Baldridge joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol on May 13, 2009, as a member of the 149th Class. He earned his commission on December 16, 2009, and was elected class speaker by his peers.

Prior to joining the Patrol, he served with the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Auxiliary and worked nine years for Frederick’s IGA. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed refereeing basketball and coaching at Carey High School. He loved cheering for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and spending time on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. He also turned work into a hobby after learning the construction trade from Phil Vaughn, Randy Adkins and Chuck Fourman.

In 2003, Trooper Baldridge graduated from Carey High School where he played football and basketball and ran track. In 2006, he graduated from the University of Findlay where he studied in criminal justice and business administration.

Trooper Baldridge was born on November 7, 1984, in Findlay. He is survived by his parents, Rick A. and Marcele A. (Wehrle) Baldridge of Carey, Ohio. Also surviving are a sister, Elizabeth A. (Robert) Williams, Findlay, a brother, Matthew C. (Chelsea) Baldridge, of Upper Sandusky, a nephew and Godson, Brayden J. Williams, maternal grandfather, John Wehrle, Findlay, paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Pauline Baldridge, Carey, and special friend, Brittany Hilgenberg.
