149th Academy Class Graduation

The Ohio State Highway Patrol held a graduation ceremony for 38 cadets on December 16, 2009, at the Training Academy. The Patrol’s 149th Class graduated after 31 weeks of rigorous law enforcement training.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland provided remarks for the ceremony. The keynote address was made by Richard Cordray, Ohio Attorney General. Additional remarks were provided by Director Cathy Collins-Taylor, Ohio Department of Public Safety; Captain (now Major) Kevin Teaford, Interim Patrol Superintendent; Judge Peter B. Abele, Fourth Appellate District, Ohio Court of Appeals; and Reverend Richard D. Ellsworth, Ohio State Highway Patrol Chaplain.

All addressed the graduates and presented their commissions and certificates of training. Courses completed by the 149th Class included firearms, traffic and criminal laws, self-defense, human relations and crash investigation training. Cadets also drove on the performance track at the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA) in London.

Trooper Andrew C. Baldridge of Carey, Ohio, was selected class speaker and thanked the Academy and the families of the cadets for being supportive during their training. The Patrol continues to mourn the loss of Trooper Baldridge, who was killed in an on-duty traffic crash on February 4, 2010.
