Helping motorcyclists and other drivers share the road safely is the goal behind the new Ride Smart. Drive Smart. safety education partnership between the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA).
To mark the new OSHP/AMA safety education partnership and the start of National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in May, motorcycle riders representing the OSHP and AMA will hold a Ride Smart. Drive Smart. breakfast and group ride on Sunday, May 1. Motorcyclists, including many off-duty state troopers who are avid motorcyclists, will depart at 11:00 a.m. from the OSHP Academy (740 East 17th Avenue, Columbus), and ride to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum (on the grounds of the AMA’s headquarters at 13515 Yarmouth Drive, Pickerington), arriving at approximately 11:15 a.m. Reporters who are motorcyclists are encouraged to participate in the Ride Smart. Drive Smart. event.
Throughout the spring and summer, the OSHP will provide a series of motorcycle safety tips from the AMA to help make it a safe and enjoyable motorcycle riding season in Ohio. Key safety messages stressed through the program will be:
1. Get Trained (including knowing proper safety gear to wear)/Get Licensed;
2. Stay Sober (incorporating the AMA’s national Ride Straight program); and
3. Other Drivers Be Aware of Motorcyclists.
