Ross Correctional Institution officer arrested for illegal drug conveyance
CHILLICOTHE – A Ross Correctional Institution officer will appear in the Chillicothe Municipal Court Monday morning after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrested him this afternoon for attempting to convey drugs into the Ross Correctional Institution.

Troopers charged David A. Yingling, 27, of Chillicothe, with attempting to convey drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility, a third-degree felony, drug trafficking, a second-degree felony, and possession of a drug of abuse, a second-degree felony.

Troopers and Department of Rehabilitation and Correction investigators obtained information that Yingling was working with an inmate to bring drugs into the Ross Correctional Institution. Yingling was arrested at 1:18 p.m. today after an ongoing investigation revealed a plot to disperse OxyContin to inmates.

Yingling was incarcerated in the Ross County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 21 years in prison and a $40,000 fine.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates criminal activity on state-owned and leased property.
