Patrol investigating multiple aircraft crashes in Portage County
RAVENNA – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating multiple aircraft crashes, in which four people were killed, that occurred at 2:06 p.m. today, approximately 20 miles east of the Akron-Canton Airport.

Troopers have confirmed that two small fixed-wing aircraft crashed in Rootstown Township, in Portage County, near the intersection of County Road 18 (Tallmadge Road) and Industry Road. There were two fatalities from each plane. Names are not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.

Troopers from the Ravenna Post are on-scene conducting an investigation and representatives from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation and Crash Reconstruction units are also responding to the scene.

A media staging is set up on Tallmadge Road, west of State Route 14.

Air space restriction by FAA below 2,500 ft, five mile radius of the scene

The Federal Aviation Administration is en route to the scene, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified of the crash. Rootstown Township Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Portage County Sheriff’s Office is also assisting with traffic control.
