Patrol seizes cocaine in Montgomery County
traffic stop valued at $3.5 million

DAYTON – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 35 kilos of cocaine, valued at $3.5 million, during a traffic stop last Friday in Montgomery County.  Two suspects have been arraigned in the Montgomery County Court on felony charges associated with the case.

Daniel Fierros-Diaz, 29, and Romero Bucio-Garcia, 21, both of Dayton, were each charged with first-degree felony possession of cocaine.

A trooper stopped a 1999 Ford Tauras for unsafe lane change and improper use of turn signal violations on State Route 725 near Byers Road in Montgomery County at 11:16 a.m. on Oct. 6.  Criminal indicators were observed, and a drug-detecting canine from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office alerted to the vehicle.  A probable cause search revealed 35 kilos of cocaine inside a gym bag in the vehicle’s trunk.

If convicted, each suspect could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.

Through September 2006, state troopers had seized nearly 4.8 million grams of illegal narcotics, valued at $42.8 million.
