Patrol seizes 142 pounds of BC Bud marijuana, valued at nearly $6.5 million in Lucas County traffic stop

TOLEDO – An Ontario man and woman are facing felony drug possession charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 142 pounds of BC Bud marijuana, valued at nearly $6.5 million, during a traffic stop yesterday on the Ohio Turnpike in Lucas County.

The driver, Ming-Hong Ma, 26, of Scarborough, Ontario, and passenger, Anh My-Lu, 25 of Markham, Ontario, are both charged with trafficking in drugs and drug abuse, both are second-degree felonies.

Troopers stopped the rented 2007 Chrysler Town and County minivan, displaying New York registration, for speed and marked lane violations westbound on the Ohio Turnpike near milepost 49 in Swanton Township in Lucas County at 2:26 p.m. Thursday. A drug-detecting canine alerted to the vehicle, and a probable cause search revealed 142 pounds of BC Bud marijuana.

Both suspects were incarcerated in the Lucas County Jail, and will be arraigned in the Maumee Municipal Court. If convicted, both could face up to 16 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.

Through April of 2007, the Patrol has seized nearly 1.2 million grams of illegal narcotics valued at $29.9 million. In 2006, the Patrol seized more than 4.9 million grams (11,000 lbs.) of illegal narcotics, valued at nearly $55 million.
