Officials with Ohio Homeland Security and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries are asking the public to be alert for suspicious activity

COLUMBUS – Ohio Homeland Security (OHS) officials in conjunction with the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) are asking the public to be on alert of individuals attempting to steal downed power and communication lines.

In light of recent storms in Ohio and surrounding regions, resulting in power and communication outages, officials remind the public and scrapyard businesses to be on alert that there is a possibility that a large amount of utility and communication cables may be stolen as repairs are underway and services are restored throughout the weekend.

Under Ohio Revise Code 4737.04, individuals in possession of any of this material must have authorization from the appropriate utility company to sell this material.

To report suspicious activity call Ohio Homeland Security at 1-877-OHS-INTEL or your local law enforcement agency.
