Patrol joins Nixle, Begins sending Traffic Alerts

Geo-located messages sent to affected drivers via text message, email or web

Columbus – In anticipation of the July 4th holiday weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol joined the mass notification system Nixle and has begun to send out up-to-the-minute traffic updates to Nixle subscribers in the affected area.

“The great thing about using this platform is that we can get the messages to those individuals that are in the area of the road closures,” said Captain Brenda Collins, commander of the Patrol’s Critical Information and Communication Center, also known as ‘The Hub’. “Hopefully this will help those affected to navigate away from the closures.”

Those interested in signing up for the service can do so via the Nixle sign-up widget on statepatrol.ohio.gov. For more information on Nixle visit http://www.nixle.com/howitworks.html.
