Troopers seize 28 pounds of marijuana in Lorain County traffic stop

ELYRIATwo individuals are facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 28 pounds of marijuana, worth approximately $127,000, following a traffic stop in Lorain County.

Troopers stopped a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, with California registration, for a following too closely violation on the Ohio Turnpike, near milepost 135, at 12:00 p.m. on October 23. Criminal indicators were observed and a Patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed 28 pounds of marijuana located in the rear cargo area.

The driver, Joanna Garcia, 24, and passenger, J. Gildardo Herrera-Martinez, 42, both of Los Angeles, Calif., were incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail, and charged with trafficking and possession of marijuana, both third-degree felonies. If convicted, each could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
