OSHP and ODOT to announce traffic safety initiative
showing total traffic deaths on digital message boards

What:

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Transportation are partnering together to announce a traffic safety initiative using ODOT digital message boards visible above highways across the state. The boards will rotate between the year-to-date number of traffic deaths of 2015 and traffic safety messaging, such as Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

When:

Wednesday, July 1, 2015, 10:00 a.m.

Where:

Ohio Department of Transportation Traffic Management Center
1980 West Broad Street
Columbus, Ohio 43223

Who:

Colonel Paul A. Pride, OSHP superintendent

Sonja Simpson, Deputy Director, ODOT Division of Operations

Why:

As of the last week of June, Ohio has recorded 76 more traffic deaths in 2015 than the same time period a year ago. By utilizing the 130 permanent digital message boards across the state, ODOT and OSHP hope to change driver behavior and reverse this upward trend.
