- There were 10 percent fewer traffic crashes within the Jackson District
during 2005. Troopers conducted more traffic stops, utilizing focused
and effective enforcement to prevent crashes and save lives.
- Troopers employed special efforts to impact the crash picture in the
district. Seven problem site and problem behavior enforcement programs
were conducted, along with five OVI checkpoints and five district-wide
OVI saturation patrols. OVI and aggressive driving arrests increased
as a result.
- Troopers also worked to reduce crashes through education efforts at
school-related events. Each post joined local high schools for the Buckle
Up for a Successful Season program. Other successful youth programs
encouraged students to get to know troopers during charity athletic
events.
- Federal overtime and multi-agency tactical squads were used to maintain
order during several annual events including the Athens Halloween Block
Party, Chillicothe's Biker Rodeo, and Swap Days in Scioto County.
- Historically, more than half of the marijuana eradicated in Ohio each
year comes from the district's 10-county area. Because of budget constraints,
some sheriffs' offices no longer have enough manpower to assist the
Bureau of Criminal Indentification and Investigation (BCI&I) with
marijuana eradication during the summer. At the request of individual
sheriffs, troopers worked with BCI&I agents to eradicate marijuana,
including the seizure of 14,000 marijuana plants with a street value
of $14 million.
- Jackson troopers led the state in felony case investigations, removing
dangerous criminals from the road. In addition, troopers arrested 72
vehicle thieves during the year.
