2023 Public Safety Leadership Academy

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and The Ohio State University – John Glenn College of Public Affairs will host the 2023 Public Safety Leadership Academy March 27, through June 8, 2023, at the Patrol's Training Academy. Those interested in attending must complete the course application and nomination form by December 23, 2022, and send to Tanya Benner at tbenner@dps.ohio.gov.

Student Requirements

Officers who hold a minimum rank of lieutenant or equivalent and have at least one year of supervisory experience.
Individuals in police departments, county sheriff’s offices, State Highway Patrol, or other law enforcement agencies.
Graduates with at least a high school diploma or equivalent.


Courses cover topics necessary to manage any division within a law enforcement agency, and a capstone project selected by the participant to create a direct benefit for his or her home agency.


Students who complete the program earn ten hours of graduate or undergraduate credit, depending on their prior education, from The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

All program costs, including tuition and room and board, are covered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and free for qualified agencies* and applicants selected into the program.
